Adult education and formation at St. Ambrose includes some of the following on-going offerings:
Bible Study — This discussion group meets in-person (and online) on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. to examine one of the lessons for the coming Sunday. The meeting runs an hour and begins and ends with prayer.
Advent and Lenten Series — During Advent and the 40 days of Lent we meet with members of the five neighboring churches in the greater deanery to discuss theologically relevant book. The evening consists of a soup supper, facilitated discussion, prayer, and dismissal.
Lent and Advent Quiet Days — This opportunity to spend a day contemplating and reflecting on the meaning of the coming of Christmas and the 40 days of Lent provides a much needed respite from the hecticness of the season.
Faithful Resistance Roundtable —This discussion group meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. Our roundtable discussion follows the tradition of the Catholic Worker Movement, where everyone comes with equal rights to clarify ideas. The current topic is “Immigration and Sanctuary.”
Sunday School —Children learn about the Episcopal church, the Bible, and the traditions of Christianity. Children leave the sanctuary during the 10:00 church service to go with the teacher to the Sunday School and then rejoin the congregation before the end.
Fellowship Hour after Church —Join us on Sunday morning in the Parish Hall after the 10 a.m. service as we gather for a nourishing meal, conversation, and fellowship. This opportunity allows us to connect, reflect, and explore together.
Ladies Lunch Bunch — On the third Thursday of every month a group of parishioners get together for lunch at 11:30 a.m. at a local restaurant. For details, watch for the Lunch Bunch announcement in the Tuesday email before the third Thursday of the month.
Men’s Breakfast — Every third Saturday of the month at 8 a.m. a group of parishioners meet for breakfast at a local restaurant. For details, watch for the Men’s Breakfast announcement in the Friday email before the third Saturday of the month.
St Ambrose Feast Day Spaghetti Lunch — We celebrate our namesake saint on his feast day, December 7, with a good old-fashioned spaghetti lunch in the Parish Hall. After all, he was the Bishop of Milan.
St Patrick’s Day Dinner — Members of the church go a little bit green in honor of the saint who cast out the snakes from Ireland.
Newcomers' gathering — Once a year, we gather at the rectory to welcome and introduce newcomers and visitors to the St Ambrose community.
Altar Guild — Members prepare the church, altar, and vessels for worship as well as maintain the linens and vestments.
Choir—Members prepare and perform music at select 10:00 services during the year, rather than every Sunday. If you are interested in singing in the choir, get in touch with Glenda Nativo, our organist and new music director, after a service to register your interest or her at glendan07@yahoo.com.
Vestry — The Vestry is the governing board of St Ambrose and consists of the rector, wardens, and lay members. The vestry oversees the financial health of the church, the maintenance of property and collaborates with the rector, the chief liturgical and pastoral officer. Members are elected at the church’s annual meeting and serve a three-year term. Vestry meetings are open to the congregation. They take place on the second Sunday of the month at noon in the library.
Finance — This group meets on Zoom on the Thursday before the Vestry meeting (the 2nd Sunday of the month) to review church finances and make recommendations for the most responsible and efficient use of funds.
Fundraising — This group dreams up projects and events that engage the church and the community in raising funds for St. Ambrose. Recent examples include Marie Callender pie sales at Thanksgiving, Applebee’s breakfast, See’s Candy sales, the Taste of Honey and Holiday Bazaar on Saint Ambrose Feast Day, and so forth.
Pastoral Care — This group manages the parish prayer list and monthly meets to pray for congregation members, family and friends in need.
Buildings & Grounds — Members review and oversee the handling of cleaning, repairs, and maintenance of church property. The group meets monthly on a Thursday evening in the Parish Office. New members who would like to be involved in the “nuts and bolts” of parish life are welcome!
Lay Eucharistic Minister — This program trains and certifies congregants to become Lay Eucharistic Ministers following a period of discernment. The lay minister assists the priest during the Eucharist and leads the Prayers of the People. They may also take the Eucharist to congregants who are sick or housebound as well as offer prayer, comfort, or support.
Lector — Parish members sign up on a regular rotation to read the scripture lessons during Sunday services.
Usher — Ushers greet newcomers and parishioners, assist with seating, collect the offering, and guide people to the altar during the Eucharist.
Stewardship — The Stewardship Committee of the parish seeks to encourage members to give generously of themselves spiritually and donate their time and energy to vital areas of the parish community.
