What to Expect
We like powerful music and interesting lessons as much as anyone, but worship in the Episcopal Church is not a stage show. We say prayers together and read responsively. We shake hands and hug; we stand and kneel; we touch, smell and taste. These things are a part of our worship, and we do them because we find them deep and meaningful. In these ancient customs we find a faith that keeps us grounded even when we aren't feeling warm and fuzzy. Give it a try, and we promise you'll find that it's so much more than just songs and lectures.
~ ~ ~ Tips for First-Time Visitors ~ ~ ~
- Get a service bulletin when you walk in the door. If you get lost during the service, all of the prayers, scripture readings and songs are listed in the bulletin.
- We don't bite. Any one of us will be happy to help you if you're not sure what's going on.
- We offer communion at almost every service, and all baptized Christians are welcome to receive. If you prefer not to take communion, please come to the altar anyway to receive a blessing from the priest. This helps keep things moving, and gives us an opportunity to pray for you. The traditional way of declining communion is by crossing your arms in an "X" shape over your chest.
- Please stay and talk to us after the service. We have coffee and snacks every Sunday in the parish hall, and most of us love to talk. Tell us (any of us) who you are, what you need us to pray for, or what you think about our worship -- if we don't hear it from you, we won't hear it from anyone.
